Results of a systematic review of the randomised trials of thrombolysis with rt-PA in acute ischaemic stroke. Effects on death at the end of follow-up. The estimate of treatment effect for each trial is expressed as an odds ratio (solid square) and its 95% confidence interval (horizontal line). The size of the black square is proportional to the amount of information available. An odds ratio of 1.0 corresponds to a treatment effect of zero, an odds ratio of less than 1.0 suggests treatment is better than control, and an odds ratio of greater than 1.0 suggests treatment is worse than control.
